How to Specify Emergency Blankets for Bulk Orders

Compare blanket construction, dimensions, individual packaging and carton details before placing a bulk emergency blanket order.

An emergency blanket order can look straightforward until two quotations describe different products with the same name. A compact reflective sheet, a fleece blanket and a relief blanket may all be offered as emergency blankets, yet they occupy different amounts of kit space and need different handling. Start with a written specification that makes those differences visible.

Define the role before the material

Write one sentence describing where the blanket will go: an individually issued emergency kit, a vehicle pack, a shelter supply or a retail preparedness range. Then record whether low packed volume, repeated use, comfort or visibility matters most.

A reflective sheet and a textile blanket should not be compared as interchangeable items. Confirm the material and construction for the exact model. If a listing offers several materials or colors, request a separate specification for each selected variant.

The language used by established suppliers also helps identify the product type. Ready America, for example, lists its compact reflective product as an emergency survival blanket. That naming is useful; its dimensions and performance claims belong to that product alone.

Put measurable details in the request

Build the comparison around fields that can be checked on a sample and repeated in the purchase order.

Specification Details to specify
Construction Material, layer structure and finish for the chosen model
Unfolded size Length and width, with agreed measurement tolerances
Packed size Dimensions of one individually packed blanket
Weight Blanket weight and packed unit weight, identified separately
Color Color on each side and the approved reference sample
Packaging Individual bag type, closure and any printed instructions
Carton Units per carton, external dimensions and gross weight

Thickness can help distinguish reflective sheets, but confirm its unit and measurement method. A product photograph does not establish thickness. For textile blankets, confirm whether a stated weight describes the finished blanket or the fabric per unit area.

Review claims separately from appearance

Silver or gold coloring is not evidence of a particular thermal result. If a purchasing requirement includes heat reflection, flame resistance or another performance threshold, ask for the applicable test report and confirm that it identifies the supplied construction. Do not convert an advertising phrase into a tender specification.

Keep unverified claims out of your own product listings. A clear description of material, dimensions and packaging is more useful to a buyer than an unsupported percentage. Where a blanket is intended for a regulated application, have the relevant product documentation reviewed for that application and destination.

Test the packed unit in the actual kit

Request samples in the proposed sales packaging. Place one inside the bag, pouch or carton that will be used for distribution. Check whether it fits without stressing seams or blocking access to other supplies.

Open a sample and review the user’s first interaction. Can the bag be opened without damaging the blanket? Is the sheet easy to unfold? Are any instructions legible at their final printed size? For reusable textile products, review the stated care instructions and how the blanket will be repacked.

Record the approved sample, packaging artwork and model identifier together. If a later shipment changes material, pack size or finish, that record gives both parties a clear reference.

Check the order as a logistics unit

Unit price is only part of the comparison. Different carton quantities and packed volumes can change freight, storage and kit assembly work. Review carton specifications alongside unit pricing to evaluate total shipping, storage, and handling costs.

Before approval, confirm:

  • The purchase order specification names the exact model and selected variant.
  • Sample dimensions match the written specification.
  • Individual packs and outer cartons are clearly distinguished.
  • Carton quantities fit your receiving and assembly process.
  • Labels and instructions match the destination and sales channel.
  • Any required reports refer to the proposed product.
